EXHIBITION ‘NEVER LIKE THIS BEFORE’ (“NUNCA ANTES ASÍ”)

This proposal tries to set a scenography through ceramic installation, decorated tiles and expanded drawings, of a living document of the conflicts and unsettling perceptions of the artist Marco Pardo, in contrast with a reality that already seems to be so repetitive that make everything disappear.
In this time of forced conditions, the reconfiguration of the society and the different way of interaction with the outside world, push us to twist our way to interact inside ourselves. A blurred face with only eyes but no possible look; an expression broken in different pieces, absent hugs and kisses, the sole weight of a hand over the shoulder; behaviors that are triggered by sympathy and seem nearly foolish; references that keep their value against a repetitive world, a home in no place that only one can recognize, and a time that is more than ever lived over and over again.
In the middle of this reality that makes you think again how to take that step already automatized, how to face the invisible in a place where the only reference are the time and the routine, Marco Pardo rejects noisy productions willing to present conclusions; How to express an opinion about something that is still happening? That is still transforming everything around?
Due to this approach, the artist decides to work on the idea of documenting, especially those issues that affect him the most as a human being –the interior- and that have a direct or indirect influence in what he calls the exterior.
Today’s places need boundaries to be proper places, references that were under the speed limit in the past. Now time drives us, more than ever, to repetition, and shows us the real ephemeral essence of our condition.
The formal proposal -introduced by Pablo Pérez Palacio’s reading- aims to be a current, living show. The exhibition is designed as if it was a metaphysical place. A place where you can feel a sense of amazement and confusion belonging to the artist in relation to his present.
Through an installation of ceramic pieces (‘domestic constellation’ or ‘2meters or 1.5?’ / “constelación doméstica” o “¿2metros o 1’5?”), decorated tiles (‘the adventures of tube’/ ”las aventuras de tubo”) and expanded drawing (ad finitum), the artist divides his proposal in two contradictory blocks: inside/outside and time/space as the best way to show conflict and condition.

EXHIBITION URGENT! LOOKING FOR FLAT IN THIS AREA (¡URGE! BUSCO PISO EN ESTA ZONA)

The artist Marco Pardo reflects on the threats that loom over our homes (speculation, gentrification, exclusion…), using the most primitive material in house construction, mud.
During his stay in Tokyo, Marco Pardo (Madrid, 1975), saw how the houses suffered, breathed and even dreamt as he did. Those feelings are now part of his exhibition ‘LOOKING FOR FLAT IN THIS AREA, 654 78 45 43’ (BUSCO PISO EN ESTA ZONA, 654 78 45 43) that he inaugurates in Madrid next 12th of September at the A Ciegas Art Gallery.
‘The world is divided into tenants and landlords. Concerns, uncertainties and powerful roles are represented by the characters of the play’.
Marco Pardo
He begins his career with sketches that he eventually turns into characters that become self-aware until they are captured on ceramic pieces.
A reflection on the role of home as the axis of our lives, as an emotional refuge, and personal and collective balance. Home is also a universal symbol of origin and eternal return.
In words of Silvana Retamal, Director of A Ciegas Art Gallery, ‘we are not looking for provocation, complaint or confrontation, but for generating that curiosity of knowing that something is happening and you cannot control it, or even understand it sometimes. The artist Marco Pardo reflects on the threats over our homes (speculation, gentrification, exclusion…), using the most primitive material in house construction, mud.
